Battle of new Nokia G series.
The Nokia G21 Vs Nokia G60.
Hey Nokia fans,
The new Nokia G60 is looking like a right step of HMD Global aka Nokia mobile into the mobile phone industry,
But is it better than their budget range AI camera powered Nokia G21?
Let’s find out in this comparison.
If we see the camera setup,
The G21 comes with 50mp main+2mp depth+2mp macro+8mp front cam.
50 MP, f/1.8, 28mm (wide), ½.76”, 0.64µm, PDAF
2 MP, (macro)
2 MP, (depth)
The G60 comes with 50mp main+5mp ultrawide + 2mp depth+8mp front cam.
50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), ½.5”, 0.7µm, PDAF
5 MP, f/2.2, (ultra wide), 1/5”
2 MP, f/2.4, (depth)
In first glance when we going to see these two devices side by side then we going to see a triple camera setup on both, but when you deep dive in then, The G60 misses out a Macro sensor for a more useful ultra wide sensor which is only 5mp but it’s at least there on the G60, but interesting part is that Nokia Mobile actually added a useful feature named camera fusion in G60, so in general the main cam and the ultra wide cam both capture a image and the center part of the image is actually captured with main cam and the sides are captured with the ultra wide one.
Now let’s dive in the comparison,
In comparison images in left side are from G21 and in right side are from G60.
1.Daylight comparison
If we see the detail levels both are looking identical with different colour profiles and the G21 tends to have pinkish tone to images and G60 using its AI capabilities here and the final output is better , but if we can see Nokia G21 started introducing good amount of sharpening in the images and whereas G60 is opting for more natural processing, The background bokeh in close-ups is better on G60 compared to G21, but one advantage G21 got and it is that, when zoomed in any images which got any sign boards or any written stuffs you can read them easily on G21 because of that sharpness, but it cost introduction of noise which can make issues during low light images and the dynamic range is better on G60 thanks to the new camera algorithm 2.0.
2.Selfies and Night mode.
i). Selfies
If we see the selfies here both got different approach to capture the selfies dynamic range is better on G21 in one situation and where as on in one situation G60 got better dynamic range, bokeh and beautification is better on G60, so the edge detection is better on G60 in selfie portraits not great but better than G21 and the noise is less in G60 thanks to its less sharpening approach whereas G21 tends to sharpen the image which introduces noise a bit in the final output.
(Thanks DrNokia for the selfies.)
ii).Low light comparison
This is where G21 starts to lose against G60, The highlights are better clipped on G60 with Better exposure with lesser noise levels thanks to the processing which tends to be natural and where as G21 try to sharpen the image which is causing lot more noise during low light with nigh mode turned on G21 just shows which class it belongs, the night mode just brightens up everything which cause overexposing and unbalanced highlights and detail lost where as G60 tend to have better image it balances the highlights well with proper exposure and the detail levels are good too. Overall it’s a easy win for G60 here.
3.Video recording.
Both these G21 and G60 max outs at 1080p recording but G60 supports both 30 fps and 60 fps where as G21 only have 30fps, If we see the samples here G60 got better stabilization against G21 and in terms of details both are good, but the highlights are well maintained and exposure is better on G60, but G60 video tends to be a bit underexposed in some situations and whereas in low light video sample the G60 sometimes started to have focus issues and colours sometimes are washed out a bit against G21, overall G60 actually better than G21 and we’ll suggest if anyone of you guys planning to get G60 try to stick with 1080/30 fps because it’s giving better footage and nice stabilization against the footage of G21’s 1080p/30fps footage.
G21 1080p/30fps
G60 1080p/30fps
G21 1080p/30fps
G60 1080/60fps
Conclusion :
Both these are great in their class, The Nokia G60 tends to show that what HMD Global is capable of doing with good hardware and great software combined and the camera 2.0 looking like one of the best camera software improvement till date from HMD Global aka Nokia Mobile if you guys can spend more on G60 then it’s worth recommending and where as if you got a limited budget then G21 still good option available too but you’ll be missing out many better things if compared against G60 and lastly don’t forget to check out detail views on camera 2.0 and G21 vs G60 by DrNokia.
